Scope and Content

EXAMINATION AND DEPOSITION: John Smith, Thomas Jones, Ann Pollet and Richard Ellis, inspector of police all of parish Holyhead, in the case v. Ellis Jones for stealing timber, the property of London and North Western Railway Co. Deponent T.J. states the accused brought some timber to his house claiming he had permission from J.S. to take the plank for some firewood. Deponent R.E. states he saw the accused carry the plank and going into T.J.'s house. He then entered the Wellington Arms, public house where R.E. charged him with stealing the timber.

i) Statement of Accused:E.J. 'I hope you will deal leniently with me.'

ii) Summary Conviction of E.J. at the Valley Hotel for stealing.

Imprisoned in Beaumaris common gaol, for one month hard labour.
