Administrative / Biographical History

The Flintshire Constabulary was formed in 1856, to replace the existing parish constables responsible for enforcing the law. The Constabulary was arranged into divisions, including Holywell, Mold, Overton and Rhyl; divisions maintained records including crime registers, summons books, registers of charges, accident books and visits books. In 1967, the Flintshire Constabulary merged with the Denbighshire and Gwynedd Police authorities. Following local government reorganisation in 1974, the enlarged Gwynedd Police became North Wales Police.
