Papers and correspondence relating to the Robbins Committee. The Committee on Higher Education, chaired by Lord Robbins, was commissioned by the Government in 1961 to review the pattern of full-time education in the United Kingdom and advise on the future development of educational institutions. The papers include correspondence between Bowden and Lord Robbins, reports and memoranda relating to subjects such as the higher education of women and the balance between teaching and research, and copy of submission of the Manchester Local Association of University Teachers. The Committee visited the College on 9 March 1962 and the file contains the Principal's notes relating to the occasion.
