Correspondence and papers relating to the creation and appointment of a Chair of Chemical Engineering and the development and expansion of the Department. There was increasing interest in this subject area and requests from industry had been made to establish a postgraduate department. The papers include advertisement, application forms, short lists and references. Frank Morton (1906-1999) was appointed in 1956 and later became President of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and Acting Principal at UMIST in 1964.
