Scope and Content

Papers relating to proposals for the development of a museum of science and technology in Manchester. These include preliminary notes outlining proposals by D.S.L. Cardwell, Chair of History of Science and Technology, and David Owen of Manchester Museum. A Joint Committee was formed to consider plans for the museum with representatives from the University, UMIST, and the City Council. The papers contain minutes of the Committee and report of the related Working Party which identified the benefits the museum would bring to the local community and examined issues such as accommodation required, management of museum and possible sources of funding.
