Scope and Content

The file contains minutes of the Joint University and UMIST Metallurgy Building Construction sub-committee and correspondence concerning the proposed metallurgy building. It was hoped to develop joint courses with Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy and Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Technology. Other correspondence relates to the space requirements for a combined Metallurgy Department and a statement referring to collaboration between UMIST and the University in the planning of integrated facilities (the Materials Sciences Centre), which physically united the two institutions' departments of metallurgy.
