Dr. Willoughby Gardner was the first President of the Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and District Field Club when it was founded in 1906. He was an eminent Welsh archaeologist and entomologist. He was a prominent member and former President of the Cambrian Archaeological Association and a Fellow of the Societies of Antiquaries of the Linnaean Society. He had also been a member of the Geographical Society. He had been a member of the Ancient Monuments Board for Wales since its inception and a member of the Welsh Committee of the National Trust. He died at his home Y Berlfa, Deganwy where he had resided for about sixty years.
