Bell and spur in the Llanrwst Church

Scope and Content

The bell is made of bronze with the handle and clapper made of iron. It is dated 1625 and then at 1655, the latter date was when it was probably repaired, and the letters "OFF" refer to Offeriaid who were priests.

The spur belonged to Dafydd ap Siencyn who was a Lancastrian Captain and folk hero of the valley who, with Sevan ap Robert, the first of the Wynn family, supported the Lancastrian cause and burnt Denbigh. In return, Edward IV sent William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke to burn Llanrwst, including the Church. Tradition says that the spur came from the Hospice in Ysbyty Ifan.
