Old Rectory, Glan Conwy

Scope and Content

The date of the original building is unknown but there was a big fire on the site in 1740 and the house was left derelict until 1810 when it was modernised as shown on this photograph. The photograph can be dated as pre-1956 because the wing on the right was demolished in that year. The ground floor windows were originally much wider in the Elizabethan style and the door was originally at the side of the porch rather than the front. The house was extended in width in the eighteenth century and also to the rear in approximately 1890, when the incumbent Rector was the Bard, 'Penfro'.
