Letters from Australia to Joan Auld, Dundee University Archivist, relating to the ship Ellengowan used by missionaries sailing to Australia in the late 19th century, 1991, 1994.

Joan Auld was born in 1938 in the Borders. Her first career was as a primary school teacher but she later took a degree in Scottish History at Edinburgh University. In 1973 she became Registrar of the Eastern Survey of the National Register of Archives (Scotland). She joined Dundee University on a part time basis in 1976 becoming full-time two years later and built up the archives, acquiring collections of national and international importance. She also established a conservation unit at the University. An active member of many archival and historical societies she was a valued member of several local and national committees. Joan Auld was a keen mountaineer and died while climbing in the Canadian Rockies in 1995.
