Administrative / Biographical History

A General Purposes Committee was set up by the Governing Body on 2 July 1970. Its purpose was to advise the Governing Body on various matters arising out of the provisions of the Articles of Government laid down by Bedfordshire County Council in pursuance of Section 1(3) of the Education (No.2) Act 1968. Matters put before the Committee are broadly similar to those considered by the Training Colleges Sub-Committee which it replaced.

The General Purposes Committee met for the first time on 16 November 1970. After January 1973 the Committee is referred to as the Finance and General Purposes Committee.
