Administrative / Biographical History
On 1st August 1952 Bedford Physical Training College Ltd went into voluntary liquidation and passed to the control of Bedfordshire Education Authority following negotiations conducted by Eileen Alexander. The College subsequently became known as the Bedford College of Physical Education. As a maintained college, eligible students entering the College after 1st August 1952 were 'recognised' i.e. they did not have to pay tuition fees and were entitled to receive a grant towards expenses. Ineligible students could apply to enter the College as a 'private' student.
