Entertainments and Plays

Administrative / Biographical History

It is not known when 'Entertainments' by students began but by the early-1920s it had become the practice for Seniors (3rd-year) to put on an Entertainment for Old Students as part of Holiday Week or Old Students' Day, and by the mid-1920s for 2nd-year and Juniors (1st-year) to put on an Entertainment in the Autumn and Spring Terms respectively.

Entertainments by the Juniors tended to feature pantomimes or published plays, whereas those by 2nd-year and Seniors featured original material based on their experiences as Bedford students and frequently contained parodies of teaching activities and styles.
