Set LII (1953-1956)

Scope and Content

Scanned copies of 130 photographs pasted onto the pages of an album. The photographs were assembled by a Bedford College of Physical Education student from Set LII. Photographs have been captioned and staff and students named. A handful of the images are in colour.

The images show scenes from a primary block teaching practice at St. George's School, Leighton Buzzard (1954); scenes from camping at Crowcombe, Quantock Hills (1954); College buildings, residencies and gardens including the interior of the remedial gymnasium, library, the new gymnasium (opened in 1956), biology laboratory and art room; students in costume for National and Modern dance demonstrations in 1955; students engaged in cricket practice and playing cricket, hockey and tennis; 1st XI cricket team and students of Set LII; the exterior of the Dame Alice Harpur School and Bedford Girls High School; Senior students performing gymnastics and a dance demonstration titled Past, Present and Future in the new gymnasium for Parents Day in 1956; scenes from a swimming gala in the indoor Bedford Girls' Modern School Baths featuring synchronised swimming and a diving display.
