Stockholm Lingiaden 1939

Scope and Content

Series of eight b/w photographs showing images of the first Lingiaden held in Stockholm, Sweden in July 1939.

The Lingiaden was an international gymnastics demonstration inaugurated on 20 July 1939 at Stockholm Stadium. The purpose of this international gymnastics exhibition was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Swedish gymnastics creator Pehr Henrik Ling . The event was organized by the Swedish Gymnastics Federation with the participation of 7399 gymnasts from 37 countries. The largest delegation came from Denmark with 1900 participants.

Five Senior students from Bedford Physical Training College were chosen to represent Great Britain in Educational Gymnastics as part of a team drawn from all of the physical training colleges in Great Britain.
