Molly Evans Set II (1904-1906)

Scope and Content

Orange cloth album with 'Reminiscences' embossed on front cover containing 159 photographs of students and staff of Bedford Physical Training College for the years 1904-1906. The album was donated by Molly Evans of Set II.

The images show scenes from life at the College and include the following: students swimming in the Commercial Road Swimming Baths, playing hockey and tennis, engaged in dance and gymnastics displays, using a vaulting horse; students and staff at picnics, boating on the river Great Ouse; students dressed in theatrical costume and using box brownie cameras; group photographs of Set II, the hockey and lacrosse teams, schoolchildren; the cricket coach, Mr Rogers, and the fencing master, tutors: Elin Lindelöf, Miss Moon, Elizabeth Roberts, and the Principal, Margaret Stansfeld; 37 Lansdowne Road: the garden, interior of gymnasium; scenes from rural Bedford life.

Students Ida Hadley, Althea Longden, Molly Petit, and May Tempest from Set I (1903-1905) and Margaret Still and Margaret Ward from Set II (1904-1906) are identified in some of the photographs.
