In late 1988, the trustees of the Alexander Charitable Trust donated £100,000 to the Sports Aid Trust. The money was invested to provide a yearly income distributed in grants to (1) help mainly young women and girls achieve excellence in the field of rhythmic movement (rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining, synchronised swimming and ice skating), and (2) assist promising young ballroom dancers (men and women) with their training. The distribution of the grants was decided by the Sports Aid Trust and the English Amateur Dancers Association. In accordance with Eileen Alexander's wishes, the fund was expended by March 2003.
Contains correspondence and related papers concerning the initial donation and its administration, reports on the distribution of the grants with occasional details of some beneficiaries (some carry annotations by Eileen), press cuttings reporting on the donation and articles on ballroom dancing, photographs and notes of appreciation from ballroom dancer recipients.
