Sue Burton Set LXII (1963-1966)

Scope and Content

Blue album with label of 'Bedford College of Physical Education 1963-1966' containing 79 photographs of Bedford College of Physical Education students participating in college life. All of the pages are captioned with students and staff named. It is believed that the album was assembled by Sue Burton of Set LXII to commemorate the Set's 40th anniversary reunion at the Old Students' Day in 2006.
The images show several College buildings including 37 Lansdowne Road, the dining room, the new library, anatomy and education block, the Read and Stansfeld gymnasium, Warwick gymnasium, dance-drama hall and music room, and the interior of the library, swimming pool and a student study bedroom; scenes of students participating in Charities Week for the years 1964-1966, camping in Somerset in 1964, canoeing on the river Great Ouse in 1965, performing a gymnastics demonstration, attending the Shuttleworth Christmas Ball, and holidaying in Spain following the end of their course.
A programme for a dance-drama based on Pilgrim's Progress is inserted into the album and is accompanied by photographs (some in colour) of the performance which was held in May 1966 to mark the official opening of the new dance-drama hall and a press cutting reporting on the performance. Similarly, a programme for the Valedictory Ball of the 62nd Set in June 1966 accompanies a photograph of some students and their partners at the ball. At the end of the album are two photographs of students from Set LXII reuniting for their 40th anniversary in 2006.
