Personal album of Mary Victoria Lace Set XV student (1917-1919) & tutor (1922-1950) Volume II

Scope and Content

Red oilcloth album with 'Reminiscences' embossed on front cover. Mary Victoria Lace (d.1950) became a member of staff in 1922 until her death in 1950. The album contains 102 photographs and is a mix of personal photographs of family, friends, scenes from home and holiday snaps, and of students and staff of Bedford Physical Training College from September 1917 to March 1919. All of the images have captions describing places, occasions, naming individuals and dates.

Scenes from life at the College include the following: students playing hockey and lacrosse, demonstrating remedial gymnastic positions; skating and playing in snow; tutors: Freda Colwill and Molly Petit; 37 Lansdowne Road: the exterior, interior of gymnasium and Senior study room; exterior of 31 Lansdowne Road.

Outside of the College, the album has a series of images of Bath War Hospital from September 1917 showing the temporary building, tents, a concert on the lawn, and the interior of a ward, the dispensary, chapel and telephone room; a meeting of stag hounds at Exmoor in August 1918; scenic views of the countryside in Devon and Somerset.
