Scope and Content

Green cloth album with 'Photographs' embossed on front cover and 'Mother' written on spine containing 64 photographs of students and staff of Bedford Physical Training College which is understood to date from Set I. The photographs are of variable quality and size and have been randomly pasted or inserted into the album suggesting this is the personal album of a student.

The images show scenes from life at the College and include the following: students fencing, swimming in the Commercial Road Swimming Baths, playing tennis, engaged in gymnastics displays; students and staff at picnics, boating on the river Great Ouse, relaxing in the garden; students dressed in theatrical costume and using box brownie cameras; group photographs of Set I, the cricket and lacrosse teams; 37 Lansdowne Road: the exterior, garden, interior of gymnasium, teaching room and dining room; scenes from Bedford life including shops and the countryside.
