Administrative / Biographical History
Beginning in 1906, former students returned to Bedford Physical Training College each July for a refresher course known as Holiday Week or, as some described it, the 'family' reunion.
Owing to increasing numbers and the difficulties in arranging a programme of events, the decision was taken in 1924 to reduce the frequency of Holiday Week from an annual to a biennial event and replace the Holiday Week with an Old Students' Day in the alternate years. The first Old Students' Day was held on 18 July 1925.
In July 1955 an Old Students' Weekend was introduced to replace the Holiday Week which had suffered from poor attendance in its later years - the last Holiday Week was held in 1952. The Old Students' Weekend was held in alternate years to the Old Students' Day.
