Scope and Content

Loose pages (8) from an album containing 83 photographs of students and staff of Bedford Physical Training College for the years circa 1912-1914. No pages or photographs are captioned. It is thought that this is part of a personal album of a student.

The images show scenes from life at the College and include the following: students swimming in the Commercial Road Swimming Baths, engaged in demonstrations of National and Revived Greek Dances and gymnastics, enjoying tea parties in the College gardens and playing fields – possibly on a Demonstration Day; hockey and lacrosse teams; tutors: Molly Petit and Elizabeth Roberts and the Principal, Margaret Stansfeld; views of the College gardens and the interior of several rooms and buildings including the medical room and gymnasium; patients of the College remedial clinic including a [Lawrence Radeci] being treated by a student; scenes from Bedford life including the countryside.
