B.Ed. (Honours) Degree - in combination with Primary School students & including a Dance Route

Administrative / Biographical History

The four-year B.Ed. (Honours) Degree commenced in 1982. It replaced the three-year B.Ed. (Ordinary) Degree (awarded in 1976) and the subsequent additional 4th-year Honours (awarded in 1979).

The aim was to provide initial training for teachers in which vocational preparation and academic study both contributed to the quality of the teacher as a skilled professional. The requirement for a four-year Honours course allowed for essential elements in the course to be covered in greater depth and facilitated the development of a coherent course over four years compared to the previous 4th-year Honours Degree being an optional extra.
