King Gustavus Gold Medal

Scope and Content

Awarded to members of the Ling Physical Education Association in recognition of their services at the 1939 Lingiad. The medal is inscribed 'Gustaf V Sveriges Konung Lingiadens Beskyddare' translated from Swedish as 'Gustaf V Sweden's King Lingiaden's Protector'.
The Lingiaden was an international gymnastics demonstration inaugurated on 20 July 1939 at Stockholm Stadium, Sweden. The purpose was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Swedish gymnastics creator Pehr Henrik Ling. The event was organized by the Swedish Gymnastics Federation with the participation of 7399 gymnasts from 37 countries. The largest delegation came from Denmark with 1900 participants.
Five Senior students from Bedford Physical Training College were chosen to represent Great Britain in Educational Gymnastics as part of a 25-strong team drawn from all of the physical training colleges in Great Britain.
