Film: 4 and 20 Fit Girls

Scope and Content

Single page from a photograph album containing a press cutting reporting on the making of the film 4 and 20 Fit Girls and two b/w photographs of an A.R.P. (Air Raid Precautions) shelter in one of the gardens of Bedford Physical Training College.

The film shows a group of young women participating in a fitness class in a local community hall. Directed by Mary Field, the film was made using Bedford Physical Training College students and was part of a wider three-year national fitness campaign organised by the National Fitness Council for England and Wales, which issued grants to local authorities to run fitness classes like the one shown in the film.
