Central European Movement (?)

Scope and Content

Two monochrome photographs stamped 'J. B. Zimbler, Wien' believed to be from the photographic studio of Juda Berisch Zimbler who ran a studio in Vienna from 1919 before escaping to Buenos Aires in 1938. Both photographs feature young women in elaborate poses and dressed in stylised 'medieval-style' costumes.

It is highly likely that the photographs were acquired by Freda Colwill, specialist dance tutor at Bedford Physical Training College, when she was sent to Vienna in 1930 to study dancing and the work of the Central European Movement under the supervision of Gertrud Bodenwieser.
