Advisory Council of Bedford Physical Training College

Administrative / Biographical History

The establishment of a College Council to advise on educational matters connected with the College was proposed by the directors of Bedford Physical Training College Limited (BPTC Ltd) in early 1948.

Membership included the Founder of the College, at least one Director of BPTC Ltd, the Principal and Vice-Principal, a representative of the Students' Association, and external members representing a university, the fields of Art, Drama, and Physiotherapy, and a School Headmistress.

The Advisory Council first met on 1 December 1949 and held its final meeting on 18 October 1951.

The Advisory Council was replaced by a Governing Body appointed by Bedfordshire Local Education Authority following the voluntary liquidation of BPTC Ltd and transfer of control to Bedfordshire LEA.
