CCPR response to the report of the Wolfenden Committee on Sport

Scope and Content

Printed pamphlet 'Sport & the Community' - the report of the Wolfenden Committee on Sport: The Views of the C.C.P.R. setting out a response to each of the 57 recommendations of the Wolfenden Report.

The Central Council of Physical Recreation appointed a small independent Committee in October 1957 to examine the general position of sport in the country and to recommend what action should be taken by statutory and voluntary bodies if games, sports and outdoor activities were to play their full part in promoting the general welfare of the community. The CCPR itself worked only in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but with the co-operation of the Scottish Council of Physical Recreation it was possible for the inquiry to cover the whole of the United Kingdom. The Wolfenden Report was published in September 1960.
