Administrative / Biographical History
Dr John Alexander Thomson gained his medical qualifications MB ChB, MD, and PhD from Glasgow University in 1956, 1970 and 1974 respectively. In 1961 he became a fellow of the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and a member of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He became a fellow of the latter in 1975 and a fellow of the Royal College of Edinburgh in 2003. Between 1982-2001 Dr Thomson held the position of Reader in Medicine and Honorary Consultant Physician at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary University Department of Medicine. His publications include numerous papers on thyroid and endocrine topics and two books, "Clinical Tests of Thyroid Function"(1974) and "An Introduction to Clinical Endocrinology" (1976, second edition 1981).
