Professor James Whyte Leitch Adams, Bell Chair of Education, University of Dundee

Much of the collection relates to the introduction of a new degree in Education and there is considerable liaison between various University departments and other educational institutions to this end. Other material relates to Adams' role as governor of the Sir John Leng Trust, including details of the Leng Gold and Silver Medals. The papers consist mainly of correspondence.

Emeritus Professor James Adams was born in Stirling in 1909 and was educated at the University of St Andrews and Oxford. He served in the RAF during the Second World War and was appointed inspector of schools thereafter. From 1950 he was lecturer in Humanities at the University of Aberdeen until 1954, when he was appointed to the Bell Chair of Education at University College Dundee. Professor Adams retired in 1980 and died in May 1983.
