Scottish Ballet was originally formed in 1957  by choreographer and producer Peter Darrell (1929-1987) and Elizabeth West (d. 1962) as the Western Theatre Ballet, in Bristol. The Company transferred to Glasgow in 1969 , to become The Scottish Theatre Ballet. It later changed its name to Scottish Ballet. The Company is now led by Robert North. A decision was made in 1998  to amalgamate with Scottish Opera and today the companies are ran by a joint board.
