Scope and Content

Contains Mountstuart Elphinstone's notes on the Peshawar and Trimbukjee before the war with the Peshawar (the Battle of Kirkee and the Third Maratha War). Includes correspondence with Sir Thomas Munro, Captain Robert Close and Francis Warden; notes on the Nizam family; a memorandum written by Richard Strachey on the general crisis in India in March 1816; and papers on the establishment and collection of intelligence regarding the Peshawar and Trimbuckjee and the British defence against their troops. Also includes Elphinstone's notebook and three scrapbooks of intelligence. Folios 50, 54, 56, 60, 75, 100, 200-250, 317 and the rest after Folio 344 are blank
