Scope and Content

Topics of correspondence include the Deccan prize money (Mss Eur F88/100/17); Mountstuart Elphinstone's recommendation for Colonel Hamilton Tovey-Tennent for the companionship for the Order of Bath (Mss Eur F88/100/18); an appeal for relief to help those suffering from a fire in Surat (Mss Eur F88/100/15); John A Murray's suggestion that Admiral Charles Elphinstone Fleeming be made Governor of Greenwich Hopsital if the position becomes vacant (Mss Eur F88/100/27); and a dispute made by Captain Pottinger over the contents of Captain Burnes' account of his travels which he believes are based on his own journals (Mss Eur F88/100/36). Also includes account statements from Crawford, Colvin & Co and Ramsay, Bonars & Co and letters from Lord Elphinstone, describing how he is settling in his new post as Governor of Madras (Mss Eur F88/100/23 and Mss Eur F88/100/29).
