Scope and Content

Includes notes by Mountstuart Elphinstone on various subjects: Puttun; North East frontier at Guzerat [Gujarat]; the route from [Palmpoor] to [Aboo]; instructions to Mr Marriott on his survey, etc. Folios 65-66 are in Persian script (items in Persian are awaiting investigation to determine their exact language). Folios 76-108 are blank. There is a note which says the file also contained notes on the Elphinstone proceedings in ordering the summary execution of plunderers and the execution for three men for treason, a letter from Charles Grant and two drafts from Mountstuart Elphinstone on Mr Lytton's motion in the House of Lords but these papers were taken out of the file and sent to Sir Thomas Edward Colebrooke in October 1881
