Scope and Content

Topics of correspondence include Lord Elphinstone's appointment as Governor of Bombay and requests for patronage or recommendation to him (for example Mss Eur F88/167/16). Also includes the news of the death of Sir Charles Adam (for example Mss Eur F88/167/17) and Sir Thomas Edward Colebrooke's accident while out shooting which resulted in an amputation (for example Mss Eur F88/167/18). Also includes several draft letters by Mountstuart Elphinstone. Some of the letters have brief annotations by Elphinstone regarding his response. Part of a letter, Mss Eur F88/167/1, is in Persian script (items in Persian are awaiting further investigation to determine their exact language)
