Scope and Content

Topics of correspondence include subscriptions for the destitute in the Scottish Highlands and Ireland; the death of Sir Edmund Lomax, owner of Parkhurst; concerns over Mountstuart Elphinstone's ill health which had made him give up London and attending various club and society meetings. Also includes a letter from Mrs Louisa Hay Kerr for Elphinstone to nominate her to the British and Foreign Institute and the attempts of Mrs Catalina Paulina Elphinstone Fleeming and Miss Anne Elizabeth Fleeming Elphinstone to find a house to rent. Some of the letters have brief annotations by Elphinstone regarding his response
