Scope and Content

Extensive archive reflecting David Wood's career as a children's playwright and writer. The vast majority of David Wood's plays and books are represented in the collection. Material includes correspondence with publishers, theatre producers and authors, as well as many sets of notes, drafts, and other documents relating to the production and publication of plays and books for children.

Administrative / Biographical History

Created by David Wood during the course of his career as a writer.

Arrangement

Material has been arranged into series by publication format, e.g. play, book, or TV and radio, and titles within each series are arranged alphabetically, reflecting David Wood's original filing system. Some titles cross-over between plays and books, so they have been sorted into the series in which they were first presented. For example, files relating to 'The Gingerbread Man' are found in the Plays series, even though the majority of material relates to the publication of the book version, which came later.

Access Information

Accessible to all researchers, by appointment only.

Appraisal Information

Material has been weeded for duplicate material, and for material that does not add significant amounts of information about the creative process, e.g. clean typescript drafts that are the same as the published text.

Custodial History

Donated to Seven Stories by the creator in 2008.
