Scope and Content

Calland estate papers comprising deeds, 1836-1924; copy manorial records, 1781-1827; including leases for copper and tin plate works; and schedules and plans, 1901-1903.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Calland family of John Forbes Calland and his wife Harriet Ann settled in Swansea c.1850. They lived at Glyn-collen in the parish of Llangyfelach until c.1866 when the family moved to Somerset before settling in Hampshire. The Calland family were involved with the Birmingham and Coal Company and later the Birmingham Mining and Copper Company, and also owned lands whcih had once been the property of John Bennett Popkin of Kittle Hill, Pennard, Glamorgan, including lands in the parishes of Llangyfelach and Llansamlet, Glamorgan.

The collection was received in a series of bundles and original order has been maintained in arranging this collection.
