15 typescript copy letters from India of the Caine family. They are headed variously from Bombay, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Lahore, Alleghur, Lucknow, Benares, Calcutta, Darjeeling and Mahableswar and contain a wealth of intelligent and fascinating observations on the people, customs, flora, fauna and topography of the sub-continent.

William Sproston Caine was sometime M.P. for Scarborough. He was the father of Lady Clwyd (Hannah Rushton Clwyd, 1869-1951), and his wife was the daughter of Hugh Stowell Brown, the well-known Baptist minister of Myrtle Street, Liverpool.
