Printed register of trademarks for Rylands and Sons. There are several insertions, including a Guide to the Classification of Goods Under the Trade Marks Acts 1905-1919, and a series of letters from Rylands and Sons (Mr Dunbar, Secretary) to R. Kay in their Export Department, dated 1937, concerning registration of trademarks (inside cover); a newscutting concerning the 'Cotton Marks Law: Mr Needham's Amending Bill' (p. 7); several loose facsimiles (p. 59); 2 handwritten sheets of notes (p. 108); facsimiles of the 'Tiger & Arrow' trademark, with some advertisements using the image, a letter dated 1936 from the Patent Office, a further series of letters from Rylands and Sons to R. Kay, again concerning trademarks, and this time mainly dating from 1939, although the final letter was written in 1944, a newspaper cutting entitled 'Trade Marks: How to Get & How to Use Them', and a copy of The Drapers' Organiser, with a section on the 'History and Value of Trade Marks' (all inside back cover). There are handwritten notes throughout, stating when the trademark registration was allowed to lapse. The loose inserts have been removed and kept separately.
