Letter from J. W. Beattie to H. Ling Roth relating his interest in the aborigines of Tasmania, says "I am deeply interested in anything relating to the early days of the colony." Beattie has made copies of Woolley's photographs and Bock's watercolours as well as Bishop Nixon's photographs of the Oyster Cove Aborigines (indicating there may be up to 15 different enlargements of the individuals). Bishop Montgomery has asked Nixon's relations in England whether the negatives of his photographs survive, and says that Bishop Montgomery himself has photographed the "half-castes". Beattie was given information about the Aborigines from Mrs Newell, who used to be married to the superintendent of Oyster Cove.
