Campaign for the Advancement of State Education

Archive Collection

Scope and Content

The deposit covers the period approximately 1961-1974 and contains the following:

Campaign for the Advancement of State Education, minutes and correspondence; publications; subject files (educational); material from other educational bodies; local Associations for the Advancement of State Education, branches arranged A-Z; Other non Campaign Education publications.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1960 the first Association for the Advancement of State Education was formed in Cambridge as one outcome of a general consumer dissatisfaction with the standard of services provided by both local and commercial organisations. Early in 1962 the Confederation (later renamed the Campaign) was formed to provide a means of communication between local Associations for the Advancement of State Education and to express the views of member Associations for the Advancement of State Education at national level.

Arrangement

The papers were received in considerable disorder. The following series have been identified and arranged, administration, subject files, other bodies, local AASEs, publications of other bodies, CASE circulars, press releases and other published material.
