Scope and Content

This typed and manuscript material includes: A brief history of the Foreign Office, Diplomatic and Consular Services from 1850 and analysis of contemporary departments. Details of regulations applying in certain other European countries.

These papers were collected by Miss Mary Sheepshanks, c.1934, as evidence to be presented by Council of Women Civil Servants to the Foreign Secretary's Committee on the Admission of Women to HM Diplomatic and Consular Services.

The folder also includes a statement prepared in Mar 1934 for the consideration of the Committee appointed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to review the question of the Admission of Women to HM Diplomatic and Consular Services - and includes some correspondence (1933-1934).
