Scope and Content

Correspondence relating to the proposed succession of William Sweet to the Chair of Neurosurgery at Manchester after Jefferson's retirement. The bundle includes letters from William Sweet to Jefferson, J.S.B. Stopford (copy) and Hugh Smith of the Rockefeller Foundation (copy). There are also letters from Stopford and from James C. White to Jefferson. Sweet could not take up the chair due to the costs of research in which he was engaged, for which he was unable to get adequate funding in Manchester.
