Administrative / Biographical History

From the early 1920s, Institute representatives began to meet together regularly to discuss issues that mutually affected them. The practice was initially unofficial and regarded with little enthusiasm by the National Federation in this early period. A resolution at the Annual General Meeting of 1922 was presented to give these groups the right of representation on County Federation Committees but was lost. None the less, the survey conducted in 1926 showed that this unofficial practice was enthusiastically practised by almost two thirds of county Federations and was allowed to flourish.
