County Buildings Papers - Quarter Sessions

Scope and Content

County Buildings Papers: Papers re the renovation of the County Hall (Beaumaris Courthouse) and other buildings at Beaumaris.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Beaumaris courthouse was built in 1614.

The building was enlarged in the early 19th cent. by adding a grand jury room at the east end, short transepts, a petty jury room on the north side, and utilitarian additions, including the heightening of the porch to create a records room above it. By this time, the building was also used as the County Hall.

The court remained as an assize court until 1971.

It is now retained as a museum by the Beaumaris Town Council.
