Letter from Lieutenant Colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie to Gertrude Bell concerning peace with Abyssinia and Italy, peace after the end of War and running a hospital in France with his wife

Scope and Content

Concerning Charles telling Gertrude that the Abyssinian Government have promised peace to Italy, although he records his doubts as to their sincerity. Speculates on the post-war world, advancing his own belief that the involvement of their armed forces would encourage British colonies (particularly India) to seek self-government. Notes that he and his wife, Lilian (1878-1960), plan to open and run a field hospital in France, to be run by Lilian.
