Records of Cwm Penmachno National School (later Cwm Penmachno Council School)

Scope and Content

Includes log books and one admission register.

Administrative / Biographical History

The school opened as a single-room schoolhouse measuring 30' x 16', in 1870. In August 1922 a new Council School was officially opened, which had two classrooms and a domestic science room. As the slate-quarrying industry declined, so did the population of Cwm Penmachno, leading to the eventual closure of the school in 1964, with a total of just 8 children remaining on the roll.
