Papers of Cecil John Cadoux

Cadoux's papers are divided into three sections:  

• The papers of C.J. Cadoux, many relating to the Congregational church
• The papers of his father W.H. Cadoux, a general merchant in Turkey, including a run of 'out-letters', 1876-81 concerning his business activities especially in the liquorice trade
• Family papers, including letters relating to genealogical research, and family trees

Cecil John Cadoux (1883-1947) was born in Smyrna (Turkey), the third son of William H. Cadoux and Emma Temple Cadoux. He was a student at Mansfield College, Oxford, where he was appointed (1914) Isherwood Fellow and Lecturer in Hebrew. He moved to the Yorkshire United Independent College at Shipley, in 1919, as professor of New Testament Criticism, Exegesis and Theology and of Christian Sociology. In 1933 he returned to Oxford as Mackennal professor of Church History and vice-principal at Mansfield College. He was married to Marguerite Asplin. Details are given in Who Was Who.
