Antony & Cleopatra at His Majesty’s Theatre, Dec 1906

Scope and Content

Sketches of characters, settings, and characters in settings in graphite and watercolour, inscribed in graphite with ms notes on colours and details, on 29 sheets of paper. Including the characters’ names Cleo (Cleopatra), Lepidus, Pompey, Antony and Caesar. 12 watercolours on cartridge paper mounted on paper seem to be Hockley’s ‘finished’ sketches, the pinholes in the top corners of each indicating that they had been pinned up. With an original paper folder inscribed in graphite by Hockley: ‘Antony and Cleopatra’.
